In a move to boost security across Nigeria, 10,000 newly recruited police constables are currently undergoing intensive arms training. This initiative is aimed at ensuring that the constables are well-prepared to protect lives and property within their assigned areas.
Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) for Zone 7 Abuja, Benneth Igwe, disclosed this during a familiarization visit to Niger State, one of the commands under his jurisdiction. The training program is part of a broader strategy by the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen its workforce and improve public safety.
AIG Igwe emphasized the importance of the training, noting that it will equip constables with essential skills in arms handling, an area crucial to their effectiveness in the field. “This training ensures that our officers are ready to face the challenges of modern policing and provide adequate protection to the communities they serve,” he said.
The police constables will be deployed to various regions across the country once they complete their training, bolstering efforts to address security issues nationwide. The initiative aligns with the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing efforts to enhance operational readiness and response capabilities amid rising security concerns.
The familiarization visit also provided AIG Igwe an opportunity to engage with Niger State’s police personnel, reinforcing the commitment to collaboration across police commands under Zone 7. This reinforcement of police presence through trained constables is expected to positively impact communities, promoting peace and security.
