At least sixteen passengers narrowly escaped death on Tuesday after a commercial bus somersaulted along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway near the Magboro axis.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when a tyre on the 18-seater bus reportedly burst, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle flipped multiple times before coming to a halt, leaving the passengers shaken but miraculously alive.
Emergency responders and concerned bystanders quickly arrived at the scene to assist in evacuating the victims. Preliminary reports indicate that while some passengers sustained minor injuries, no fatalities were recorded.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other rescue officials swiftly moved in to secure the area and ensure the smooth flow of traffic, which had built up due to the crash.
An official statement from the FRSC is yet to be released but authorities have reiterated the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and cautious driving, especially on high-speed expressways.
The incident adds to the growing concern over the safety of Nigeria’s highways, particularly the Lagos Ibadan corridor which remains one of the busiest and most accident-prone roads in the country.
