
Vice President Kashim Shettima has said the 2027 presidential election will not be decided on social media, declaring that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu currently has no serious rival ahead of the polls.
Shettima made the remarks on Friday while addressing the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the Vice President, electoral victories in Nigeria are secured through grassroots mobilisation, strong political structures, credibility, and nationwide acceptance, not online popularity.
“Elections are not won on social media,” Shettima said, stressing that President Tinubu’s political experience, leadership capacity, and nationwide network place him in a commanding position ahead of 2027.
He added that while Nigeria’s democracy allows any qualified citizen to contest, anyone seeking to challenge the President would be embarking on a futile mission.
Shettima described the 2027 election as a responsibility rather than a gamble, expressing confidence that the APC remains firmly positioned to retain power.
