2Baba Faces Backlash After Publicly Confirming Separation from Wife, Annie Idibia

Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has come under heavy criticism from celebrities and social media users after publicly confirming his separation from his wife, Annie Idibia.

On Monday, J.O Comms reported that the singer had posted a video on his Instagram story, revealing that he and Annie had been separated for some time and were in the process of filing for divorce. In the now-deleted post, he said:

“Hello to my beautiful people of all federations. Well, this thing I have to say is short but also long. Annie Macaulay and I have been separated for a while now and are currently filing for divorce. I will release a press statement soon to share my story. Not because it’s anyone’s right to know, but because I love my people and want them to know my innocence or offence. Stay blessed, my people. I love you all.”

Shortly after, 2Baba posted another message claiming his Instagram account had been hacked:

“My Instagram account has been hacked. Efforts are being made to regain control. #OneLove.”

However, in a later turn of events, he contradicted this claim, sharing two videos in which he confirmed that his account had not been hacked.

“Yo, my people. Nobody hacked my account. It’s me who said what I said. I come in peace,” he declared.

Celebrity Reactions

Following the announcement, 2Baba faced significant backlash, with many accusing him of being insensitive and disrespectful to his wife, Annie, by handling their separation publicly.

Media personality Toke Makinwa strongly criticized the singer, writing:

“This is wrong on all levels. You should be ashamed for bringing this here. If you think she’s alone, let me tell you, you’ll have to fight us all. Women must take a stand against wrongdoing. What is wrong is wrong, and we will fight for her.”

Makinwa emphasized the importance of timing and empathy, saying:

“Nobody is asking anyone to stay in a situation that no longer serves them. By all means, leave if you must. But why bring this online now? Timing is everything. Empathy is everything. You preach love, but you cannot add to the negativity when you know what’s happening behind closed doors.”

Nollywood actress Mary Remmy Njoku also weighed in, urging 2Baba to treat Annie with respect:

“Bro, Annie has a family. Your sisters-in-law are many, and we’ve stayed quiet out of respect for her tough choices. But since you’ve decided to humiliate her at her lowest, no wahala. Just make sure she’s okay. When the time comes, we’ll have plenty of questions for you.”

Fellow Nollywood actress Uche Elendu expressed disappointment, stating:

“No love, no accountability, no loyalty, no respect, no empathy. I am so disappointed by this betrayal and insensitive public announcement. Love does not count errors. Annie stood by you through thick and thin, but this is how you repay her?”

Big Brother Naija star Nina Ivy criticized 2Baba for seeking public validation, saying:

“I could never be with a man who seeks public validation or uses my lowest moments to taunt me on social media. Ladies, you deserve peace and respect. Being with someone who prioritizes your mental health is essential. Protect your peace and set boundaries.”

Public Reaction

The announcement has sparked widespread debate online, with some supporting 2Baba’s decision to speak out while others condemned his approach.

Attempts to reach 2Baba’s management for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
