
A mobile court sitting in Rivers State has convicted 36 motorists for flouting traffic regulations during an enforcement exercise carried out by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rivers State Command.
The special court, presided over by His Worship Lilian M. Awuse (ESQ), delivered judgment on Thursday after hearing cases brought against the offenders.
Convictions and Fines
11 drivers who attempted to bribe FRSC operatives were fined ₦10,000 each.
9 motorists were convicted of overloading and also handed fines of ₦10,000 each.
16 others faced sanctions for offences ranging from driving without valid licences to seat belt violations, faulty lights, absence of caution signs, cracked windshields, worn-out tyres, non-installation of speed limiters, and failure to present passenger manifests.
One defendant was cautioned and discharged after undergoing sensitization.
FRSC’s Warning
Speaking after the sitting, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Inyang Umoh, said the mobile court underscores the FRSC’s resolve to ensure strict compliance with traffic laws.
“This exercise sends a strong message that traffic laws must be obeyed. Anyone who disregards these regulations will face the consequences,” he stated.
