On Thursday, the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) Office announced that over 60 students on its scholarship have achieved first-class honors in various competitive disciplines from 2016 to 2023 at partner universities.
Dr. Charles Ariye, the PAP Head of Education, shared this update, noting that these disciplines include electrical/electronics engineering, computer science, civil engineering, accounting, law, petroleum engineering, physics, international relations, and biochemistry, among others.
This announcement follows the impressive achievement of Kemien Egbekun, a PAP scholar who graduated with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.77 (first class) in Law from Michael and Cecilia Ibru University in Delta State. Additionally, two other PAP-sponsored students from the same institution, Oladapo Damilola and Toikumo Prosper, earned second-class upper division honors in Law. The three students were celebrated during the university’s 6th convocation ceremony on September 6, 2024.
Dr. Ariye noted that while the 2024 scorecard is still pending from various institutions, Egbekun and her peers have contributed to the growing list of PAP beneficiaries achieving exceptional academic results.
Dr. Dennis Otuaro, the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, expressed his pleasure at the outstanding academic performance of the program’s students. In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Igoniko Oduma, Otuaro highlighted that these achievements underscore the program’s success in advancing human capital development in the Niger Delta.
Otuaro attributed the students’ successes to the strong support from President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing that it aligns with his Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at fostering sustainable peace, stability, and development in the region.
“We are thrilled with the remarkable academic performances of our scholarship students,” Otuaro said. “Their achievements in earning first-class and second-class upper division honors validate that the PAP is effectively fulfilling its mandate. We are committed to furthering our educational and vocational initiatives.”
He also extended gratitude to President Tinubu for his unwavering support, recognizing his dedication to the Niger Delta through his Renewed Hope Agend
