Sixty-nine days after President Bola Tinubu unveiled 2,000 tractors and other farm machines, farmers are yet to receive them. The equipment remains at the National Agricultural Seed Council in Abuja.
Farmer associations, including AFAN and the Community Allied Farmers Association, have voiced frustration, warning that the delay could undermine this year’s harvest as the wet season peaks.
The Agriculture Ministry says distribution plans are ready but pending presidential approval. Minister Abubakar Kyari assured that once cleared, the tractors will be allocated transparently, with GPS tracking to prevent diversion.
Launched under the Renewed Hope Agenda, the tractors and harvesters are expected to cultivate 550,000 hectares, yield 2 million metric tons of food, and create 16,000 jobs. Farmers now await the President’s return from Brazil to kick-start deployment.
