President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has once again reaffirmed that education remains a cornerstone of his Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing that no nation can achieve lasting development without a strong and inclusive educational foundation. This renewed emphasis is not just a declaration of intent but a continuation of deliberate policy action aimed at rebuilding Nigeria’s education sector from the ground up.
President Tinubu’s approach to education is anchored on access, equity, quality, and relevance. Recognizing the urgent need to address learning poverty, outdated infrastructure, teacher shortages, and low digital literacy, the administration is rolling out a multipronged reform strategy that touches all levels of education from early childhood to tertiary institutions.
Under his leadership, the Federal Government has already taken concrete steps to:
a. Expand access to higher education through the Student Loan Act which removes financial barriers for underprivileged students
b. Invest in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) as a key driver of youth empowerment and job creation
c. Reintroduce national values and civic education to promote patriotism, discipline, and national cohesion in classrooms
d. Revamp basic education by increasing funding through the Universal Basic Education Commission with matching grants for state governments committed to quality improvement
e. Support digital transformation in schools by partnering with global tech companies to provide e learning tools, broadband infrastructure, and teacher capacity building
These reforms reflect President Tinubu’s understanding that Nigeria’s future depends on the minds it nurtures today. His administration is actively working to ensure that education is not only available but also meaningful, modern, and fit for purpose in the 21st century.
The Renewed Hope Agenda places education at the heart of national development because it is the most sustainable pathway out of poverty, ignorance, and insecurity. With political will, stakeholder collaboration, and effective implementation, Nigeria can reposition its education system as a tool of transformation, innovation, and global competitiveness.
President Tinubu’s consistent prioritisation of education sends a clear message that every Nigerian child, regardless of background, deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s future.
