The Federal Government has inaugurated committees to carry out a comprehensive personnel audit and skills gap assessment across the civil service. The move, which aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, is designed to strengthen efficiency, eliminate redundancy, and ensure that the workforce is better equipped to meet the nation’s development goals.
The personnel audit will provide accurate data on the current strength of the civil service, including staff distribution, qualifications, and areas of duplication. This is expected to help eliminate ghost workers and align manpower needs with national priorities.
In addition, the skills gap assessment will identify areas where civil servants require retraining or new competencies to perform effectively in today’s technology-driven and reform-focused governance environment. By doing so, the government seeks to modernize the service and reposition it as a driver of sustainable growth.
Officials noted that the outcome of the committees’ work will guide reforms in recruitment, training, and deployment, ensuring that the civil service remains a professional, accountable, and high-performing institution capable of delivering on President Tinubu’s transformative policies.
