The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, has alleged that his life and those of the company’s management staff are under serious threat. He said his only “offense” was pushing through critical reforms in the oil and gas sector, as directed by President Bola Tinubu, to revive the nation’s ailing refineries.
Ojulari made the revelation on Thursday while receiving a delegation from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) led by its President, Comrade Festus Osifo, at the company’s headquarters in Abuja. He expressed concern that some powerful interests are actively plotting to oust him because of the sweeping changes underway at the corporation.
The NNPCL boss, however, maintained that he would not be deterred from implementing reforms aimed at ensuring transparency, efficiency, and accountability in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. He urged stakeholders and organized labor to stand firm in protecting the process from sabotage, stressing that the success of the sector is critical to Nigeria’s economic stability.
