The Federal Government has commenced the construction of over 10,000 housing units across 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory under the Renewed Hope Housing Programme. The initiative is aimed at reducing Nigeria’s housing deficit while stimulating economic growth. It has attracted over ₦70 billion in private capital through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) and is expected to generate more than 250,000 direct and indirect jobs for Nigerian artisans.
The programme is structured into three tiers: Renewed Hope Cities, large master-planned communities of at least 1,000 units each; Renewed Hope Estates, 250-unit developments targeting middle-income earners; and Renewed Hope Social Housing Estates, 100-unit projects in each Local Government Area for the poorest citizens. Key projects include a 2,000-unit development in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, and a 3,112-unit estate in Karsana, Abuja, with the Southwest region taking the lead in delivering results.
In addition to housing construction, the government is setting up Building Materials Manufacturing Hubs in all six geopolitical zones to promote local production, reduce import dependence, lower costs, and create more jobs. The Renewed Hope Housing Programme forms part of a broader strategy to make housing a driver of economic growth, infrastructure development, and inclusive prosperity across Nigeria.
