The Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority (LBRBDA) has signed a ₦5 billion partnership agreement with Amisec Industrial Company Limited to establish “AgroCity Doma”, a large-scale agricultural and agro-industrial development project designed to boost food production and rural industrialization in Nasarawa State.

The project, which will be developed under a public–private partnership (PPP) model, is sited within the Doma Dam Irrigation Area. It aims to transform the zone into a modern agro-industrial hub through the integration of mechanized farming, value addition, renewable energy, and community development.

Under the agreement, the LBRBDA will provide 1,000 hectares of irrigable land and access to water from the Doma Dam, while Amisec Industrial Company will lead on capital investment, infrastructure construction, farm operations, and management.

The ₦5 billion first phase of AgroCity Doma will feature a mechanised nucleus farm, solar-powered irrigation systems, and a sesame processing plant with a capacity of 10 metric tons per hour. The facility will also include agroforestry buffers, rural infrastructure, and a structured outgrower scheme expected to engage over 1,000 local farmers.

According to Amisec’s Managing Director, the initiative will generate more than 500 direct jobs and about 2,000 indirect employment opportunities across the value chain from farming and logistics to processing and exports. Once fully operational, AgroCity Doma is projected to earn over US$7 million (₦10.8 billion) annually from organic sesame exports.

LBRBDA’s Managing Director, Engr. Mohammed Adra, described the project as a “flagship model for sustainable agricultural transformation” under Nigeria’s River Basin Development framework. He noted that AgroCity Doma aligns with the Federal Government’s goals of enhancing food security, promoting industrial agriculture, and creating jobs through productive utilization of irrigation assets.

Farming operations are scheduled to commence by the next rainy season, with full processing and export activities targeted for early 2027.
