The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has disbursed a total sum of ₦2.103 trillion to the Federal Government, state governments, and local government councils as revenue for September 2025. The allocation, finalized at FAAC’s October meeting in Abuja and chaired by the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamsudeen Ogunjimi, represents a decrease of about ₦122 billion compared to the ₦2.225 trillion shared in August.
According to FAAC, the total revenue of ₦3.054 trillion was available in September, from which ₦116.149 billion was deducted as the cost of collection and ₦835.005 billion for transfers, interventions, refunds, and savings. From the ₦2.103 trillion distributed, the Federal Government received ₦711.314 billion, state governments got ₦727.170 billion, while local government councils received ₦529.954 billion. In addition, oil-producing states received ₦134.956 billion as derivation revenue, representing 13 percent of mineral revenue.
Further breakdown showed that ₦1.239 trillion was distributed as statutory revenue, ₦812.593 billion from Value Added Tax (VAT), and ₦51.684 billion from the Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL). The Federal Government received ₦581.672 billion from statutory revenue, ₦121.889 billion from VAT, and ₦7.753 billion from EMTL, while the states and local governments received ₦295.032 billion and ₦227.457 billion from statutory sources respectively.
FAAC attributed the slight decline in total allocations to a drop in gross statutory revenue, which fell from ₦2.838 trillion in August to ₦2.128 trillion in September. However, VAT collections recorded an increase of ₦150.011 billion, rising to ₦872.630 billion. Economic analysts have called for greater fiscal discipline and diversification of revenue sources to cushion the impact of fluctuating federal allocations on state and local government budgets.
