The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has refuted claims by an online publication linking the cancellation of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary activities to an alleged coup attempt.
In a statement, the DHQ described the report as false and malicious, stressing that the cancellation was to allow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu attend a strategic bilateral meeting abroad, while the Armed Forces sustain momentum in the fight against terrorism and banditry.
The military also clarified that the ongoing investigation of sixteen officers is a routine internal process to ensure discipline and professionalism, with findings to be made public.
The DHQ reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ unwavering loyalty to the Constitution and to President Tinubu, urging Nigerians to disregard falsehoods and continue supporting security agencies in safeguarding democracy and national stability.
