President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigeria’s judiciary to remain steadfast, impartial, and incorruptible in the discharge of its duties, stressing that the collapse of any society begins when the justice system loses its moral integrity. Speaking at the opening of the EFCC–National Judicial Institute (NJI) Workshop for Justices and Judges in Abuja, the President, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the rule of law and promoting judicial independence through improved welfare and working conditions for judicial officers.

Highlighting his administration’s achievements in the fight against corruption, President Tinubu revealed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured over 7,000 convictions and recovered assets worth more than ₦500 billion in the first two years of his tenure. He noted that the recovered proceeds have been redirected into social programmes such as the Students Loan and Consumer Credit Schemes. The President also emphasized that his administration does not shield any political actors from prosecution, insisting that both the judiciary and anti-corruption agencies have full independence to perform their constitutional roles.

Addressing challenges in the justice system, President Tinubu urged judges to adapt to emerging technological realities in handling financial crimes, including cases involving cryptocurrency and blockchain fraud. Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, reaffirmed that the judiciary’s credibility depends on fairness and speed in delivering justice. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, represented by Senator Mohammed Monguno, assured that the National Assembly will continue to support anti-corruption efforts through legislation and oversight. EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede added that the Supreme Court’s recent ruling affirming the Commission’s powers has further empowered Nigeria’s anti-corruption institutions to deliver results.
