NSA Orders Shutdown of Bandits’ Social Media Accounts, Blames Coups and Porous Borders for Rising Insecurity

The Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) has announced plans to deactivate social media accounts linked to bandit groups as part of intensified efforts to curb insecurity across Nigeria.

The NSA disclosed that the worsening security situation in the country has been aggravated by instability in neighbouring nations, particularly military coups, as well as poorly secured borders that allow the free movement of arms and criminal elements.

According to the NSA’s office, these factors have contributed significantly to the spread of banditry, terrorism and other violent crimes within Nigeria. The statement noted that shutting down the digital channels used by bandits would disrupt their communication, recruitment and propaganda activities.

In a startling revelation, the NSA also claimed that some Nigerians are now allegedly staging self-kidnappings in order to extort money, a trend described as disturbing and complicating ongoing security operations.

The office said security agencies are strengthening intelligence-gathering mechanisms to identify and prosecute individuals involved in such practices, while urging citizens to support efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability nationwide.
