Rabiu Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has stated that he would only consider defecting to another political party if he is offered the presidential or vice-presidential ticket for the 2027 general election. Speaking to reporters, Kwankwaso emphasized that his decision would hinge entirely on securing one of the top two positions in the next election.

The former governor also condemned the planned defection of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as an act of betrayal. He urged his supporters to remain loyal to the party and reiterated that any defection must align with his political ambitions and the collective interest of his followers nationwide.

Kwankwaso, who has had a political career spanning more than four decades, reassured his supporters that he remains committed to his party’s ideals. He stressed that loyalty and strategic positioning are key considerations in any political move, and that his supporters would only accept a defection that guarantees a top position in the 2027 general election.
