FG Introduces ELIN to Curb Examination Malpractice in National Exams

The Federal Ministry of Education has unveiled a new Examination Learners’ Identity Number (ELIN) to tackle examination malpractice in national exams such as WAEC, NECO, and other accredited bodies.

ELIN is a unique identifier assigned to every candidate, aimed at tracking learners throughout the examination process, enhancing monitoring, and improving accountability. The system is expected to strengthen data management, certification integrity, and overall exam reform.

The initiative comes amid longstanding concerns over cheating and result manipulation in public examinations. The government believes ELIN will deter malpractice, ensure fairness, and restore public confidence in exam outcomes.

In addition to ELIN, other reforms include randomized exam questions, stricter supervision, and a new National Continuous Assessment framework. Education officials say these measures demonstrate the FG’s commitment to conducting credible, transparent, and globally competitive examinations.
