Kano State Government Denies Reports of Administrative Shutdown

The Kano State Government has dismissed claims that a recent directive by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has grounded public administration in the state.

According to officials, the directive, issued at the end of December, temporarily halted the forwarding of new files from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to the Governor’s office while the 2025 Appropriation Law was expiring and the new budget was still under consideration by the State House of Assembly.

The government emphasized that the measure was purely administrative and fiscal, intended to prevent unauthorized expenditures, ensure compliance with public finance regulations, and avoid potential audit and legal issues.

Contrary to reports of paralysis, the Kano government said that essential services — including security, healthcare, education, and sanitation — continue to operate normally.

Officials clarified that the directive only paused the submission of new discretionary matters to the Governor’s office pending the establishment of a new fiscal framework, and that fresh directives will be issued once transitional administrative reviews are concluded.
