Former Minister of Transportation and presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has declared himself the most electable candidate ahead of the party’s presidential primary, insisting that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may struggle to win the general election if chosen as the party’s flagbearer.
Amaechi expressed confidence in his chances of securing the ADC presidential ticket, arguing that his political experience, national appeal, and leadership record place him in a stronger position to challenge the ruling APC in the 2027 presidential election.
The former Rivers State governor maintained that the opposition must present a candidate capable of attracting broad support across the country, warning that repeating past political strategies could weaken the party’s chances at the polls.
His comments come amid growing competition within the ADC, where leading figures including Atiku have intensified consultations and mobilization ahead of the party’s presidential primary scheduled for May 25, 2026.
Both Atiku and Amaechi recently submitted their presidential nomination forms at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, formally joining the race for the ADC ticket.
The development has further heightened political tension within the opposition coalition as aspirants continue efforts to emerge as the party’s consensus candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.
