The Oyo State Government has demolished a building allegedly used as a kidnappers’ hideout in the Lakoun area along Ayegun–Olojuoro Road, Ibadan, following the successful rescue of relatives of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.
The demolished structure was reportedly where Mrs. Olaide Adegoke John-Paul, Adelabu’s younger sister, and her 12-year-old twin sons were held after they were abducted on June 3. The victims regained their freedom during a coordinated security operation carried out over the weekend.
According to reports, security operatives traced the suspects to the location through intelligence gathering and surveillance. A gun battle reportedly ensued during the rescue mission, resulting in the death of two suspected kidnappers, while several others escaped. Weapons were also recovered from the scene.
The demolition exercise, carried out on Monday, followed an assessment of the site by security authorities. Oyo State officials said the action underscores the government’s determination to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state. Authorities described the demolition as a strong warning to criminal elements operating within the state.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over kidnapping cases in parts of the country, with security agencies intensifying efforts to dismantle criminal networks and enhance public safety. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
