President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) have approved significant restructuring of federal ministries, dissolving both the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development. The decision, made during today’s FEC meeting in Abuja, is part of a broader reform aimed at improving efficiency in governance.
In place of the Niger Delta Ministry, the newly created Ministry of Regional Development will oversee all regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, and North East Development Commission. This move is expected to centralize and streamline regional growth initiatives across the country.
Additionally, the National Sports Commission will assume the duties previously managed by the Ministry of Sports, shifting responsibilities to an independent body designed to promote sports development at a national level.
In another key decision, the FEC approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, consolidating efforts to promote Nigeria’s cultural heritage and tourism potential.
These sweeping reforms mark a new chapter in Tinubu’s administration, reflecting his commitment to reshaping Nigeria’s governance structure for enhanced performance and effectiveness.
