Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), met with a delegation from the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce in her Abuja office on Wednesday. The delegation, led by Sir Sam Joe Madu, sought to explore opportunities for greater investments in Africa.
In her remarks, Dabiri-Erewa emphasized the potential for Africa’s advancement through “intentional investments by Africans in the Diaspora.” She highlighted Africa’s abundant human and natural resources and expressed NiDCOM’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to substantial investment.
The statement from NiDCOM spokesman Gabriel Odu noted that Dabiri-Erewa drew parallels with Asia, asserting that Africa’s rich resources could propel the continent to new heights if leveraged properly. She urged other Africans in the Diaspora to identify and invest in the continent, reinforcing NiDCOM’s readiness to support these endeavors.
Madu, who is also the Founder of Global United Voice for Empowerment, shared the delegation’s plans to shift from a transactional economy to real-time investments in sectors such as agriculture, ethical mining, refinery, and infrastructure. The group aims to establish linkages between local construction companies and vetted US firms. Additionally, they plan to offer scholarships in ICT and cybersecurity, and create local call centers with alternative power supplies for real-time support across Africa.
