Abuja Centenary City Project to Cost $1.6 Billion

The Abuja Centenary City project, a major urban development initiative, is projected to cost over $1.6 billion (approximately ₦2.4 trillion). This ambitious project aims to transform the Federal Capital Territory into a modern, multifunctional urban center.()

Dr. Ike M. Odenigwe, the Managing Director of the project, announced that the first phase of construction has been awarded to Julius Berger Nigeria PLC. This phase includes the provision of primary infrastructure and the detailed engineering design of the entire development, with a budget allocation of ₦750 billion. Dar Al-Handasah Consultants will oversee the coordination of the city’s master plan.

The Centenary City is envisioned to offer a cosmopolitan lifestyle, featuring five-star hotels, an international commerce center, a Mall of Africa, a championship golf course, a polo estate, Nigerian and safari parks, an African arts museum, an industrial park, and various entertainment facilities.

After a period of development hiatus, the project is now progressing, with plans to redefine sub-Saharan Africa’s skyline and enhance Nigeria’s global standing in urban planning. The project is also expected to create significant employment opportunities and attract international investment.
