Ace Frehley, legendary guitarist and founding member of KISS, has died at 74 after complications from a brain bleed following a fall in the studio. After being placed on life support, his family made the heartbreaking decision to turn off his ventilator Thursday. Ace’s powerful guitar riffs helped define the sound of rock in the 1970s and left an indelible mark on the music world.

Known as “The Spaceman,” Ace joined Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Peter Criss to launch KISS in 1973. He played on classic hits including “Detroit Rock City,” “I Was Made for Lovin’ You,” and “Rock and Roll All Nite.” Despite struggles with substance abuse and creative differences, Ace’s influence was pivotal in shaping the band’s legacy during his first tenure from 1973 to 1982.

After launching his solo project, Frehley’s Comet, Ace rejoined KISS for their 1996 reunion tour, continuing to inspire fans until 2002. His solo hits like “Back in the New York Groove” remain fan favorites. Ace Frehley’s contributions were immortalized with his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 alongside his KISS bandmates. His legacy will forever resonate in the world of rock.
