The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has organized a capacity-building program for soybean farmers in Adamawa State, aimed at equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to meet international export standards.

The training, conducted by NEPC’s Northeast Regional Office under the theme “Empowering Soybean Farmers for Export,” is part of the federal government’s “One State, One Crop” initiative, with soybean designated as Adamawa’s focus export crop.

During the program, farmers were guided on best agricultural practices, post-harvest handling, and compliance with export regulations, including limits on chemical residues and proper documentation. The training emphasized strategies to enhance crop quality, reduce post-harvest losses, and boost farmers’ access to lucrative international markets.

In a show of support for local farmers, the Adamawa State government covered the cost of export license certification for 150 potential agro-exporters. NEPC officials also encouraged farmers to organize into clusters to leverage economies of scale and improve market negotiation.

“The training equips our farmers with the skills to meet the stringent standards required for export, ensuring they can compete successfully in international markets,” said a NEPC spokesperson.

Experts say that if effectively implemented, the program could significantly increase Adamawa’s soybean exports, improve farmers’ income, and strengthen the state’s agricultural economy. Continuous monitoring and support will be critical to ensure the lessons translate into measurable gains in quality, yield, and export volumes. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
