ADC Ticket: Obi, Kwankwaso Set to Challenge Atiku for 2027 Presidential Nomination

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is witnessing early positioning ahead of its 2027 presidential primaries, with reports indicating that Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso may contest the party’s ticket against Atiku Abubakar.

Sources say former President Olusegun Obasanjo is encouraging a possible alliance between Obi and Kwankwaso, proposing that Kwankwaso take the vice-presidential slot alongside Obi. The suggested arrangement is aimed at strengthening the opposition’s chances against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

Political analysts note that Obi, with his appeal in the south and among young voters, combined with Kwankwaso’s strong northern base, could present a formidable challenge within the party and nationally. While Kwankwaso has not publicly confirmed the discussions, aides indicate that high-level talks with stakeholders are ongoing, and a formal announcement regarding the party’s direction is expected soon.

The development underscores the early strategic maneuvering within opposition parties as they prepare for the 2027 general elections, highlighting the fluid nature of alliances and ticket negotiations in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
