Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the full enforcement of the Osun State Local Government Accounts Administration Law, as local government workers prepare to resume duties on January 5 following the suspension of their industrial action.
The directive comes as the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Osun State chapter, confirmed the decision to return to work after months of shutdown of council activities across the state. The strike was linked to disputes over local government administration and security concerns at council secretariats.
Governor Adeleke stressed that strict compliance with the financial law is necessary to ensure transparency, accountability, and proper management of local government funds. He warned that any deviation from the provisions of the law would attract appropriate sanctions.
The governor commended NULGE for what he described as a patriotic decision to resume work in the interest of grassroots development and service delivery. He also praised security agencies, particularly the police, for maintaining peace and securing local government facilities ahead of the workers’ return.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command has cautioned political actors against any attempt to disrupt the resumption of activities at local government offices, assuring residents that adequate security measures are in place.
The resumption is expected to restore full administrative and social services at the local government level across Osun State.
