Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman is reportedly eager to return to the Premier League, with Arsenal stepping up efforts to secure his signature from Serie A side Atalanta.
The current African Footballer of the Year is high on Arsenal’s radar as the North London club reopens negotiations with the Bergamo-based outfit for a potential summer move. According to CaughtOffside, talks are underway, with Atalanta valuing the 26-year-old winger at between £38–42 million (€60 million).
Lookman is said to be keen on a switch to the Emirates Stadium, where he would join a team poised for a major summer rebuild in their pursuit of domestic and European silverware. Arsenal have made direct contact with the Nigeria international, per AFTV, as they target key attacking reinforcements.
Despite boasting one of Europe’s most disciplined defences over the past two seasons, Arsenal have struggled to convert dominance into goals. The club’s inconsistent forward line — including Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, and Leandro Trossard — has underlined the need for more firepower, particularly on the left flank and in the No. 9 role.
Lookman has established himself as one of the most lethal and dynamic wingers in Europe. Since arriving at Atalanta, he has recorded an impressive 52 goals and 25 assists in 118 appearances across all competitions.
His standout moment came in May 2024, when he scored a sensational hat-trick in the Europa League final against previously unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen, leading Atalanta to their first-ever European title. He remains the only player to net a hat-trick in a Europa League final.
Arsenal’s interest comes amid links to other attacking targets, including Real Madrid’s Rodrygo and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze. However, Lookman appears ready to leave Bergamo, and with two years left on his contract, Atalanta are reportedly willing to sell.
While Arsenal are seen as frontrunners, competition is fierce. Juventus, Napoli, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Barcelona are all monitoring the situation closely. Yet Lookman is believed to favour a return to England — the country where he began his professional journey and where he maintains close personal ties.
As Mikel Arteta prepares for a pivotal summer transfer window, the addition of Lookman could be a crucial step in transforming Arsenal’s attack into a title-winning force.
