Ademola Lookman has formally handed in a transfer request to Atalanta, alleging the club reneged on a mutual agreement to let him leave if a fair offer arrived and accusing them of treating him poorly despite his loyalty and contributions.

In a candid statement shared on Instagram on Sunday, the Nigerian international voiced his frustration over what he described as “broken promises” and “poor treatment.”

“Despite receiving an offer that aligns with what I believe was previously agreed, the club is now blocking the move for reasons I don’t understand. Over the years, I’ve stayed loyal despite interest from other clubs,” Lookman wrote.

“After months of frustration, I feel I have no choice but to speak out. Enough is enough. I can confirm I’ve formally requested a transfer.”

Lookman, 27, joined Atalanta in 2022 and quickly became one of their standout players, playing a crucial role in the club’s historic UEFA Europa League triumph.

Reflecting on his time in Bergamo, he said he had given “absolutely everything” to the team, fans, and city:

“I’ve worn the shirt with pride, passion, and dedication. Winning the Europa League in Dublin was one of the proudest moments of my career. This club has felt like home from day one, and I’ve always tried to repay that love—even when things weren’t easy behind the scenes.”

He revealed that both he and Atalanta’s management had previously agreed that “now was the right time” for him to move on if a fair offer arrived.

Addressing the fans directly, Lookman apologized for the way events have unfolded but insisted he was standing up for what he believes is fair:

“To the fans – the heartbeat of this club – I’m truly sorry it has come to this. I hope you can understand this difficult situation. I still hope we can work together with the club to find an amicable resolution.”

Since joining from RB Leipzig for €15 million in 2022, Lookman has been pivotal for Atalanta. He scored on his Serie A debut, helped deliver their first major European trophy, earned a Ballon d’Or nomination, and was crowned CAF African Footballer of the Year in 2024.

Despite his success, Lookman’s future now hangs in the balance as he pushes for an exit he claims was long overdue.
