For the second time, former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, will be arraigned today at the Federal High Court in Abuja, facing 19 charges of alleged money laundering.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will present Bello before Justice Emeka Nwite to enter his plea. Originally scheduled for January 27, the arraignment was brought forward following his recent appearance before the EFCC.
Both Bello’s legal team and the EFCC’s counsel have already received the hearing notice to ensure the process runs smoothly. This is the second trial for the former governor, who was previously arraigned by the EFCC on November 27, 2024, before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on charges of alleged breach of trust.
Bello, who pleaded not guilty to the 16 charges in that case, has requested bail to prepare his defense. Justice Maryann Anenih is expected to rule on his bail application on December 10, with Bello and two co-defendants currently remanded in EFCC custody until then.
The case continues to draw attention as it progresses through the legal system.
