Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has announced a full overhaul of Kano Pillars Football Club’s management, naming former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa as the club’s new General Manager.

The announcement was made official on Friday in a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa. The restructuring comes after the expiration of the previous board’s one-year tenure and forms part of what Governor Yusuf described as a “strategic effort to reposition Kano Pillars for greater success.”

“This is more than just a reshuffle—it’s a calculated move to fuse football expertise with administrative competence,” the statement read. “Appointing Ahmed Musa underscores our ambition to attract investment, inspire players, and rekindle the passion of our supporters.”

Ahmed Musa, a veteran Nigerian international with an illustrious career in the English Premier League, Russian Premier League, and Turkish Super Lig, began his professional journey with Kano Pillars and later captained the national team. His return in a leadership capacity has generated widespread enthusiasm among fans and football stakeholders alike.

Reacting to his appointment, Musa expressed both gratitude and optimism for the club’s future.

“Kano Pillars has always been home for me,” he said. “I’m honoured to serve the club in this new role. With our talented squad and passionate supporters, we can build a structure that pushes us to compete for titles again.”

The newly appointed 17-member board will be chaired by Ali Umar (Nayara), with several key figures from the previous board returning due to their contributions to the team’s recent progress, including a respectable ninth-place finish in the just-concluded Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

Other members of the board include Salisu Mohammed Kosawa, Yusuf Danladi (Andy Cole), Idris Malikawa Garu, Nasiru Bello, Muhammad Ibrahim (Hassan West), and Hamza Abdulkarim Audi Chara. Media Directors Abubakar Isah Dandago Yamalash and Ismail Abba Tangalash retain their positions to ensure continuity in the club’s communication efforts.

Governor Yusuf urged the new board to raise standards in performance, discipline, and engagement with key stakeholders.

“With a team of this calibre, we are confident Kano Pillars will reestablish itself as a dominant force in Nigerian football. The board has our full backing to make bold, progressive decisions,” he said.
