The newly crowned Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, has publicly challenged the authority of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, over the conferment of the chieftaincy title “Okanlomo of Yorubaland” on prominent businessman Chief Dotun Sanusi.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday by Bode Durojaiye, the Alaafin’s Director of Media and Publicity, the Oyo monarch declared that the Ooni’s action was a direct affront to his exclusive right to bestow titles spanning the entire Yorubaland.

The Alaafin warned that failure to rescind the title could lead to serious consequences, escalating tensions between two of the most influential thrones in Yorubaland.
