The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, has been re-elected as Chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) at the Group’s 2026 Annual General Meeting held in Riyadh. Alake, who first assumed the role in 2024 at the Future Minerals Forum, thanked fellow African ministers for their renewed confidence and highlighted the approval of a more inclusive leadership structure that reflects Africa’s regional diversity.
Alake emphasised that African countries must work together to derive real value from their mineral resources. He stressed the importance of agreed financial contributions, mutual accountability, and a credible budget framework to ensure that AMSG functions effectively and maintains credibility across the continent.
Beyond governance, the Minister noted that minerals alone cannot transform African economies. He highlighted the need for infrastructure development, aligned policies, and deliberate value addition, alongside strong financing and governance frameworks to attract investment and promote sustainable growth, stability, and shared prosperity throughout Africa.
