When was the last time you took a smooth train ride across southern Nigeria? After weeks of anticipation, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) will officially resume operations on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. The service had been temporarily halted to allow critical repairs, system checks, and maintenance on both the tracks and the trains — all aimed at enhancing passenger safety, comfort, and reliability.

According to the NRC, passengers eager to secure their seats can begin online bookings starting from 12 noon on Monday, October 27, 2025, via the official portal at https://nrc-fane.ng. For those who prefer traditional methods, tickets will also be available at designated stations. The revived service will commence with seven coaches — six standard class and one business class — ensuring a balance between affordability and comfort for travelers across the busy corridor.

In a statement, the Corporation disclosed that a new timetable will be released on Monday, featuring temporary speed restrictions to prioritize safety as operations resume. NRC extended its heartfelt appreciation to passengers and stakeholders for their patience during the service suspension, noting that the maintenance period was necessary to uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s growing rail network.

Managing Director of NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, reaffirmed the corporation’s dedication to delivering a safe, efficient, and dependable transportation experience. With the Warri–Itakpe line back in motion, many commuters are wondering — will this mark a new era for Nigerian rail travel? Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
