AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed that Croatian captain Luka Modric will join the club from Real Madrid following the conclusion of the Club World Cup.
Modric, who will turn 40 in September, announced earlier this year that he would leave Real Madrid at the end of his contract, bringing an end to a glittering 12-year spell in Spain after joining from Tottenham in 2012. Speculation over a move to Italy began in early June.
Real Madrid face Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup semi-finals on Wednesday, with the final set for July 13.
“He’ll arrive in August,” Allegri said during his first press conference since returning to AC Milan.
“He’s an extraordinary and important player; there’s really no need to say more.”
Allegri is back at the Rossoneri after previously managing the club from 2010 to 2014, a spell that included a Serie A title win in 2011. Milan will kick off their new campaign in the Coppa Italia on August 17.
