Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that opposition coalition leaders will unite behind whoever emerges as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general elections.

Amaechi made this known on Wednesday while addressing journalists in Port Harcourt. He assured that the coalition is committed to a transparent and credible primary process, stressing that once a candidate emerges, all stakeholders will offer full support. “The moment anybody emerges from the primary, all of us will support; that’s the agreement,” Amaechi said, reiterating the coalition’s insistence on fairness and internal democracy.

The former All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart expressed deep concern over the worsening economic conditions in the country, urging citizens—especially in Rivers State—to rally behind the ADC as a credible alternative to the ruling APC. “Every Rivers man who thinks good of the state and country should move to register with the new party and ensure that we remove the current government and stop the hunger that everybody is suffering from,” he said.

The ADC has become the adopted political platform for a powerful opposition coalition aiming to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027. The coalition includes heavyweight political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra governor Peter Obi, ex-Senate President David Mark, and former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai. Mark, serving as the coalition’s interim chairman, described the alliance—unveiled on July 2—as a national rescue effort to prevent Nigeria from sliding into a one-party state.
