The Anambra State Government has ordered all public schools in the state to resume full academic activities on Mondays, effectively ending the long-standing practice of school closures linked to the weekly sit-at-home trend.
The directive, issued through the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), takes immediate effect and applies to all public primary and secondary schools across the state.
Government officials said the decision was necessary to address the negative impact of repeated school shutdowns on students’ learning and the academic calendar. They stressed that every child has a right to uninterrupted education and that schools must function like any other working day.
The government also warned that teachers and school administrators who fail to comply with the directive will face disciplinary actions, including salary deductions and other sanctions.
The Monday sit-at-home practice, which began several years ago in the South-East, has continued to disrupt education, businesses, and public services despite repeated calls for a return to normal activities.
State authorities reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the safety of students and staff, noting that appropriate security measures will be put in place to support the policy and restore confidence in public life. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
