Antoine Griezmann has announced his retirement from the France national team, marking the end of a significant ten-year career, he revealed on Monday.

The 33-year-old forward played a pivotal role in France’s journey to three major finals: losing the Euro 2016 final on home turf, winning the 2018 World Cup, and finishing as runners-up in the 2022 World Cup. He also celebrated victory in the 2021 UEFA Nations League.

Griezmann’s final appearances for France came during this month’s Nations League matches, where the team faced defeat against Spain in the Euro 2024 semifinal.

“It is with a heart full of memories that I close this chapter of my life,” Griezmann shared on social media. “Thank you for this magnificent tricolor adventure, and see you soon.”

He expressed profound emotion in his announcement, stating, “After ten incredible years filled with challenges, successes, and unforgettable moments, it’s time for me to turn the page and make room for the new generation. Wearing this shirt has been an honor and a privilege. I leave the France national team with pride and gratitude. I had the honor of representing our country and experiencing extraordinary moments, like becoming a world champion.”

Griezmann added, “I’ll continue to support Les Bleus with passion. I’m convinced that the future is bright, and I can’t wait to see the next generation shine.”

He made his debut for France in March 2014 during a 2-0 friendly win against the Netherlands, under the guidance of coach Didier Deschamps, who has led the team since 2012.
