The All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly denied allegations of stockpiling money to buy votes during the ongoing gubernatorial election in Edo State. Former governor and prominent APC chieftain Adams Oshiomhole addressed these claims while casting his vote at Iyamho, Ward 10 Unit 01, in Estako West Local Government Area.

“It is laughable when I hear this kind of allegation,” Oshiomhole stated. He emphasized that the significant turnout of voters was not due to monetary inducement but rather the desire for good governance. “During our campaign, people came out to see me not because I wanted to give them something, but because of what I have done for them while I was in office as the governor,” he said.

Oshiomhole highlighted the lasting impact of his administration, noting that the structures established 12 to 13 years ago remain in place, while the current administration’s initiatives have been less enduring. “Some people tell me that since I left the government, they haven’t seen the real presence of government in their communities,” he added.

Despite reports of vote buying and thuggery circulating during the election, Oshiomhole asserted that the voting process had been peaceful at his polling unit. His comments come amid heightened scrutiny of the electoral process, as various parties monitor the situation closely.

As the election continues, Oshiomhole’s remarks aim to counteract claims that financial inducements are influencing voter behavior, reinforcing the APC’s commitment to transparency and integrity in the electoral process.
