The APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to resign from his cabinet position, following Wike’s warning for Basiru to “leave Rivers State alone” amid accusations of meddling in state politics.
Speaking during a visit to supporters in Oyigbo Local Government Area, Wike described Rivers State as a “no-go area” for external interference, cautioned against taking his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for granted, and alleged that some APC leaders were vying for an alleged N600 billion “largesse” in the state.
In a statement released in Osogbo, Basiru described Wike’s response as a “tirade” and “uncouth,” insisting it was provoked by his defense of governors’ respect within the party, including Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, regardless of political differences.
Basiru emphasized that Wike, who is not a member of the APC, lacks the authority to interfere in party affairs. He challenged Wike’s allegations of financial misconduct, warned against his veiled threats, and asserted that his own political record reflects “unquestionable integrity.”
He further stated that Wike cannot hold a cabinet position in an APC-led government while attempting to destabilize the party, and urged the FCT Minister to resign as the “honourable thing to do.”
