The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in all 21 local government chairmanship positions in Kogi State, following the just-concluded council elections on Saturday. Additionally, the ruling party secured all 239 councillorship seats across the state.

The chairperson of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), Mamman Nda-Eri, announced the results, describing the elections as peaceful, free, and fair. He praised the performance of the APC, noting that it dominated the electoral process, leaving no seats for the 18 other political parties that participated.

“APC performed excellently; it cleared all the chairmanship and councillorship positions, leaving nothing to the other 18 political parties that took part in the election,” Nda-Eri said in a statement.

The results were declared by the returning officers at various collation centers before being confirmed at the KOSIEC headquarters. Nda-Eri expressed gratitude to election officials, security personnel, observers, and journalists, acknowledging their role in ensuring a smooth and successful electoral process.

In his remarks, Nda-Eri urged the newly elected officials to be magnanimous in their victories, noting the importance of financial autonomy granted to local governments through a Supreme Court ruling. He also extended his appreciation to all individuals and groups who contributed positively to the successful conduct of the elections.

The landslide victory further cements the dominance of the APC in Kogi State ahead of the upcoming governorship election.
