APGA’s Ifeoma Azikiwe Wins Onitsha North 1 By-Election

Onitsha, August 17, 2025 – The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Ifeoma Azikiwe, has been declared winner of the Onitsha North 1 State Constituency by-election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Professor Ibiam Ekpe, announced the result on Sunday morning.

Azikiwe secured 7,774 votes to defeat her closest rival, Justice Azuka of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who scored 1,909 votes. Other results included:

Ezennia Ojekwe (All Progressives Congress – APC) – 1,371 votes

Njideka Ndiwe (Young Progressives Party – YPP) – 655 votes

Commending the peaceful conduct of the poll, Prof. Ekpe declared:

“The candidate of APGA, Ifeoma Azikiwe, having satisfied the requirements of the law by scoring the highest votes in the election, is hereby returned elected.”

Azikiwe will fill the seat left vacant by the late lawmaker, Justice Azuka, who was kidnapped and killed. She will serve out the remaining two years of the tenure.
