Nigeria’s aviation sector recorded a major milestone as the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) formally issued Aerodrome Certificates to the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, and the Obafemi Awolowo International Airport, Port Harcourt. The certification confirms that both airports meet national regulatory requirements in line with international aviation safety and operational standards.

The certificates were presented to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) following rigorous inspections, audits, and compliance assessments conducted by the NCAA to ensure adherence to globally accepted best practices in airport operations and safety management.

Speaking at the certification ceremony, FAAN’s Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, described the development as a significant achievement for Nigeria’s aviation industry. She noted that the certification reflects FAAN’s institutional discipline, operational excellence, and close collaboration with the NCAA throughout the certification process. According to her, the milestone is not an end in itself but part of FAAN’s ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and strict compliance with safety standards.

Mrs. Kuku further assured that FAAN would promptly address any outstanding corrective actions identified during the certification process, stressing that safety remains a non-negotiable priority across all Nigerian airports under FAAN’s management.

Industry stakeholders say the certification is expected to boost passenger and airline confidence, enhance operational reliability, and strengthen Nigeria’s standing within the global aviation community. It also reinforces NCAA’s role as an effective regulator committed to ensuring that the country’s airports operate in line with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

The certification of the Kano and Port Harcourt airports marks another step in Nigeria’s broader efforts to modernize its aviation infrastructure and improve safety oversight across the sector. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
