Arsenal Optimistic in Premier League Title Pursuit – Raya

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya remains optimistic about his team’s chances of overtaking Liverpool in the Premier League title race after narrowing the gap to four points.

Mikel Arteta’s side secured a crucial 2-1 victory against arch-rivals Tottenham on Wednesday, thanks to a spirited comeback. Despite falling behind to Son Heung-min’s early goal, Arsenal leveled through Dominic Solanke’s own goal before Leandro Trossard netted the winner just before halftime.

The win ended a frustrating three-match winless run for Arsenal, which included an FA Cup third-round exit to 10-man Manchester United and a League Cup semi-final first-leg defeat to Newcastle.

While Liverpool remain title favorites with a game in hand, Raya believes the Gunners can still close the gap.

“Yes, of course. In football, everything can happen,” Raya said. “Three weeks ago, people were saying Liverpool had the title in their hands. But things change quickly in football.

“We just need to focus on ourselves, win every game, and see where we are at the end of the season. Living in the present is the most important thing.”

Injury Setbacks and Mental Resilience

Arsenal’s victory came despite significant injury setbacks. Forward Gabriel Jesus was diagnosed with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, sidelining him for the rest of the season, while Bukayo Saka remains out after hamstring surgery.

Raya emphasized the team’s strong mentality in overcoming these challenges.

“It was vital to come into this game with a big mentality. The derby is not just about the league but also for our fans,” he said. “We showed great character, especially after going behind. We dominated the first half and earned the win.

“This victory is for Gabriel Jesus. His injury is a massive blow, but this result shows the team’s strength and unity.”

Looking Ahead to Aston Villa

Arsenal now turn their attention to Saturday’s clash with Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium. Raya stressed the importance of preparation as they aim to avoid a repeat of last season’s 2-0 home loss to Unai Emery’s side.

“Aston Villa are a strong team. We need to recover, train, and be ready for what will be a tough match,” he said.

With renewed momentum and a resilient squad, Arsenal remain hopeful of keeping the pressure on Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title.
