The African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) has recently concluded a tailored support mission to Nigeria’s Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), reaffirming its commitment to enhancing tax systems across Africa. The mission focused on key areas of transformation aimed at improving efficiency and fostering sustainable economic growth.

The initiative targeted three critical areas:

Building a robust productivity framework to streamline operations.

Implementing strategic performance management systems to enhance accountability and outcomes.

Advancing learning and development initiatives to empower tax officials with essential skills and knowledge.

This mission was conducted in collaboration with partners including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Kenya Revenue Authority (KESRA), and the United Kingdom’s His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

Empowering Tax Administrations

ATAF’s efforts underscore its broader vision of empowering tax administrations across Africa to support sustainable development. By working with FIRS, one of the continent’s largest tax agencies, ATAF aims to bolster Nigeria’s revenue collection capacity, which is vital for funding public services and infrastructure.

The partnership reflects a growing emphasis on collaboration among African and global institutions to address common challenges in tax administration, improve compliance, and reduce reliance on external debt.

ATAF expressed its pride in partnering with leading organizations to drive transformation, stating, “Together, we are building stronger tax systems for sustainable growth and a prosperous Africa.”

This initiative is part of ATAF’s ongoing mission to promote best practices and innovation in tax policy and administration across the continent.
