Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emphasised the urgent need to re-engineer Nigeria, stating that the country is no longer moving in the right direction.
Speaking on Tuesday in Yola at a coalition meeting attended by members of various political parties, Atiku stressed that Nigerians must take action to secure a better future.
“We need a new movement that we can use to correct things. If we do not act this time, our children will become slaves in their fatherland,” Atiku warned.
Atiku Hints at Political Move Ahead of 2027 Elections
The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) arrived at Yola International Airport in his private jet at 12:48 p.m., where he was received by Senator Ishaku Abbo. His convoy proceeded to the American University of Nigeria Hotel, the venue of the coalition meeting.
Atiku, however, remained tight-lipped about his next political steps, stating:
“It is not yet time for me to speak on the politics of the country, but very soon, I will break my silence on my political position and other things that are wrongly going on in the country.”
Call for a New Political Alliance
Atiku urged Nigerians to stay vigilant and work for the country’s interest, suggesting that a new movement could serve as a savior for Nigeria. He also commended Senator Abbo, the meeting’s convener, for bringing together a diverse group of political leaders.
Abbo, in his remarks, pledged his support for Atiku, stating:
“As the former Vice President, you are our party, you are our logo. Anywhere you go, we will follow you.”
The meeting drew representatives from all 21 Local Government Areas of Adamawa State, further underscoring the widespread support for Atiku’s proposed movement.
Adewole Adebayo Criticizes Tinubu’s Administration
In a related development, 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing it as a “colossal disappointment” in handling security and socio-economic challenges.
During an Iftar gathering in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Monday evening, Adebayo assessed the two-year performance of the Tinubu administration, lamenting:
“Poverty, insecurity, underdevelopment, and unemployment—these are the issues Nigerians are facing. Those in power are only clamoring for themselves.”
Adebayo further accused the administration of failing to address key economic issues, stating:
“Tinubu is the current champion of disgrace because it is a disgrace when you cannot feed the poor in a land of plenty.”
He also criticized past administrations, recalling how former President Muhammadu Buhari urged Nigerians to engage in farming without providing land, security, or fertilizers to support agriculture.
