Atiku Declares: I’m Not Desperate to Be President, but for a Better Nigeria

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said his priority is building a better Nigeria, not a personal ambition to become president.

Speaking at an affirmation ceremony for new defectors into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Saturday in Lagos, Atiku, who was represented by Prof. Ola Olateju of Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, stressed that his political vision is about service and national renewal rather than self-interest.

According to him, ADC is more than a political party but a movement of Nigerians committed to a new beginning that would deliver security, prosperity, and good governance. “It’s not about Atiku must be president at all costs. What we need is a better, secure, and prosperous Nigeria. This is why some of us are with him,” Olateju said on his behalf.

The former PDP presidential candidate, who recently left the party alongside other opposition figures to join ADC, said the movement is dedicated to repositioning the country for greatness. He emphasized that the time had come for a departure from “politics as usual” toward a fresh start for the nation.
