Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo Refutes Calls for Private Airstrip License Revocation

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on Friday clarified that recent reports suggesting the House of Representatives called for the revocation of a private airstrip license are misleading. Keyamo stated that it was not the House as a whole, but rather a single House member, who moved the motion regarding the license.

Keyamo criticized the motion, describing it as based on “a complete lack of knowledge of the aviation sector.” He emphasized that the aviation industry operates under specific regulations and that decisions about licensing require informed expertise. “Calls for revocation need to be approached with a full understanding of the regulatory environment and industry standards,” he added, highlighting that private airstrips contribute significantly to Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure.

This clarification follows a period of heightened scrutiny on aviation policies, with the Ministry of Aviation prioritizing regulatory stability to support both public and private aviation sectors. Keyamo underscored the importance of accurate information in policy-making, particularly in a sector as complex as aviation, and urged lawmakers to consult the ministry on such technical issues moving forward.
