Ayra Starr, the Nigerian singer and Roc Nation artist, has voiced concerns over her new “Hot Body” social media trend. She expressed worry on her social media that the trending challenge, which features young women dancing and flaunting their bodies to her latest single, might attract conspiracy theories accusing her of using supernatural or “mami water” powers.
The “Hot Body” trend kicked off as a way to promote Ayra Starr’s first single under Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label. However, it has sparked some controversy with critics accusing the trend of promoting nudity and questionable fashion choices. Fellow artist Jaywon even publicly questioned her modesty and upbringing as a result of the trend’s boldness.
Ayra Starr’s concern is not unfounded, as her label mate Rema previously faced similar conspiracy accusations about occult symbolism at his London concert. Rema had to clarify that his stage props referenced African cultural artifacts and firmly debunked any claims of satanic or Illuminati affiliations. Ayra Starr hopes to avoid such unfair allegations despite the boldness of her new trend.
